Reconnecting With Lorena

Politicians can change her future

Lorena says she was never anti-Trump. In fact her mother, an illegal, very much supported Trump. Her mother owns a small Nashville business that faithfully pays taxes and employs twenty people and said Trump protected the small person in business and grew the economy. But even if Lorena was not against Trump, nor was she for him. She said she had hoped he would help with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals–a program set in place by Obama to temporarily protect people from deportation who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children and who have lived here most of their lives). But he didn’t. Lorena says maybe now that Biden is in office things will be different. She says she hopes so, although she knows most politicians only talk about things they don’t do. She said she hopes a change will come but she is watching cautiously and not getting her hopes up. Not too much. We sat with her in late January of 2021 and asked her how these new possibilities are affecting her.
